Nowadays, information and communication technologies (ICT) are actively developed, the availability and popularity of the Internet increase, software which allows automating the work of specialists in various industries and improving its efficiency and optimizing the process of obtaining objective, reliable, systematic information on the requested object and subject are developed. These advantages, in particular, are used in the pharmaceutical industry. However, now there are a number of problems in the use of information and communication technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. From their number, we can highlight the rapid obsolescence of existing developments due to the rapid development of information and communication technologies, global change of information sphere, the transformation of its borders and technologies and others. All these point to the need for further implementation and development of ICT in this industry, as in any other.
Purpose of research. To analyze the state of ICT use in pharmaceutical research and development.
Materials and methods. The study materials were works of scientists in the field of pharmacy and information technology (IT), Internet resources, legislative and normative documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the study the methods of logical, systematic, structural analysis were used.
Results and discussions. As a result of the study the following main areas of use of modern IT ensuring the development of the pharmaceutical industry were identified: workflow automation; means of communication; automation of pharmaceutical production, accounting, banking operations. It was found that for the successful implementation of these trends, increasing the efficiency of companies in the pharmaceutical industry, in addition to the hardware (PCs), you must have software (SW) - appropriate automated information products (AIP). It was also found that among the existing AIP, we can distinguish 6 types, which are used in pharmacy: electronic sources of pharmaceutical information (PI); a database (DB); automated information system (AIS), expert systems (ES), automated databases, knowledge bases; websites; hardware and software systems (HSS), e.g. automated workstation (AWS), the automated control system (ACS); other software - applied software or software packages for solving various practical problems [1].
It was also established that the government of our country has adopted a number of documents and measures for further implementation and development of information and communication technologies in various sectors and areas of the republic. Measures and activities undertaken in the following areas can serve as examples for this: institutional arrangements for the implementation and development of information and communication technologies; development of the infrastructure of information and communication technologies; training, retraining and skills improvement of staff; popularization of information and communication technologies among the population, and others. Measures and activities in these areas include the use of the Internet and ICT in the daily life and work activity of the population, satisfaction of the information needs of the population by means of developing the domestic information resources, improvement of the quality and increase of the production of domestic software using advanced foreign experience, creation of joint projects in the field of software development, the introduction of modern technologies into the software production processes etc [2].
In addition, it was found that even top multinational pharmaceutical companies whose activity is based on research, abandoning inefficient traditional models of research and development of drugs began to apply new ones, among which the software - a virtual research and development model (virtual R & D model) is listed. For example, Chorus, an entity of Eli Lilly, has proven that virtual R&D can help to reduce both cost and time needed in pharmaceutical R&D. Herewith the productivity of virtual R & D model has been 3-10 times higher than the traditional pharmaceutical R&D model [3].
Finally, at research it was revealed the lack of software products and resources in Uzbek.
Conclusions. Comprehensive research is needed in the field of software development, especially in the Uzbek, with the assistance of appropriate experts. At the same time it is necessary to ensure the accordance of these studies to the topical and priority government programs and directions, as well as to take into account the advanced international experience in this field.
